General information
What is the color code for?

Your personal color code can be found on the quickstart guide that came with your I LOCK IT.

This code can be used to open the lock when no Bluetooth connection to I LOCK IT is active.

Ther personal color code is also used to add new devices to your I LOCK IT and therefore this code should not be shared with others.

How can I enter the color code?

Please deactivate all active Bluetooth connections to I LOCK IT. If the lock is opened please close it by pressing the button on I LOCK IT.

After locking the personal color code can be entered by pressing the button, holding it and releasing it.

When holding the button different colors will light up. You simply have to release the button when the correct color is visible. If you repeat this for all 6 colors I LOCK IT will start the unlock process and the button will light up green as soon as it's completely unlocked. 

If the wrong code is entered the button flashes 3 times red and if the wrong code is entered 3 times in a row the color code unlocking function will be disabled for 5 minutes.

How can I enter the Bluetooth Pairing mode?

Please follow the instructions above to unlock I LOCK IT with your personal color code which was delivered with I LOCK IT.

When the button lights up green after the successful unlock press the button and hold it pressed until it lights up in blue. After releasing the button the lock will enter the Bluetooth pairing mode and the button will flash blue. New devices can be connected to I LOCK IT now.

Please note that currently one smartphone can only be connected to one I LOCK IT, while it is possible to pair up to 8 different smartphones with I LOCK IT.

Will I LOCK IT fit my bike?

Bikes are just as different as their owners. Trekking, City or E-Bikes come in different forms and shapes. That's why we developed I LOCK IT to fit most of the many different bikes but unfortunately, we can't guarantee that it will fit all of them.

For the mounting of I LOCK IT the measurements of the back wheel rim and the thickness of the tire important.

The distance between the lower edge of the back wheel rim and the upper edge of the tire (or fender) should be less than 106 mm (4.1 inches). Further, the tire shouldn't be thicker than 64 mm (2.5 inches).

Mounting on the bike

Many bikes and e-bikes already have mounting openings for the easy installation of wheel locks like I LOCK IT. Since there is no standard specification for those mounting openings it is still possible that I LOCK IT won't fit. To make sure it will fit simply use the model from above. 

If your bike doesn't have any mounting options or I LOCK IT doesn't fit on the ones mounting openings which are there you can simply install I LOCK IT with the help of adapters.

Setup with Smartphone / Keyfob
I'm unable to set up the key fob

To set up the key fob with I LOCK IT the lock must be in pairing mode (the I LOCK IT button flashes blue) and the key fob must be in the factory setting. To get I LOCK IT into pairing mode please read chapter 4.4 of the user manual which can be found here.

To put the key fob into factory setting please follow the instructions:

1. Remove the battery from the key fob

2. Press the key fob button and hold it pressed

3. Put the battery back in (button still pressed)

4. Wait 5 seconds

5. Release the button

6. The key fob led will flash green, the key fob is now in factory mode
 The app doesn't connect after selecting I LOCK IT in the list

When I LOCK IT is selected in the list but no connection is established several issues are possible:

  • I LOCK IT is not in pairing mode. To connect a new smartphone or key fob I LOCK IT needs to be in pairing mode. Please follow the instruction in chapter 4.4 of the user manual to set I LOCK IT into pairing mode.

 

  • I LOCK IT was already paired with this key fob or smartphone and afterward put into factory settings. To connect the smartphone again with I LOCK IT you need to remove the pairing in the Bluetooth settings of your smartphone. To connect the key fob again it needs to be put into factory mode (see chapter 5 of the user manual).

 

  • The used smartphone is not compatible with I LOCK IT. Unfortunately a few smartphones can not communicate with I LOCK IT because they don't support the used encryption. If this is the case I LOCK IT will change the color from blue to white after trying to connect. 
The app is unable to find my I LOCK IT

If I LOCK IT can not be found in the selection list the following issues are possible:

  • The Bluetooth functionality of the smartphone is disabled. Please activate Bluetooth and try again.

 

  • I LOCK IT is not in pairing mode. Please make sure that the I LOCK IT button flashes blue (see question: "The button doesn't flash blue").

 

  • There is an issue with the bluetooth funcationality of your smartphone. Please deactivate and activate Bluetooth again. Afterwards please restart the I LOCK IT App.
The button doesn't flash blue

To pair a new smartphone or key fob with I LOCK IT the I LOCK IT button needs to flash blue. If pressing the button and it doesn't start flashing blue this means a device is already paired with I LOCK IT.

If this is the case then please follow these steps to get I LOCK IT into pairing mode:

1. Close I LOCK IT if it's opened

2. Make sure no Bluetooth connection to I LOCK IT is active

3. Open I LOCK IT with the personal color code which came with the quickstart guide

4. Wait until I LOCK IT is open and the button lights up green

5. Press the button and hold it pressed until it lights up in blue

-> The button will start flashing blue

Note: This only works with the color code that came with I LOCK IT. It's not possible to use an in the app generated color code for this function.

 


Unlocking

Locking
I LOCK IT doesn't lock

If I LOCK IT cannot be locked, this can be due to different reasons:

  • I LOCK IT was moved when locking. If this happens, I LOCK IT cannot lock and it signals this with a warning tone. Please do not move I LOCK IT to complete the locking process.

 

  • I LOCK IT was mounted too tightly. Please loosen the screws or release the tension, wait a bit and perform the locking process again.

 

  • No device has been set up at I LOCK IT yet. Locking is only possible after the successful setup of at least one smartphone or a key fob. Please carry out the initial setup.

 

  • I LOCK IT meets resistance and therefore can not lock. Please make sure that no resistance obstructs the locking bolt.

Bluetooth connection
Disable Android Battery Performance Optimizer

The settings in the battery performance optimization on Android smartphones (from Android 6 - Marshmallow) can prevent automatic reconnect to I LOCK IT. For Android 6 (Marshmallow), battery performance tuning is part of the settings on the smartphone. To disable optimization for the I LOCK IT App, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Open the settings on the smartphone

  2. Go to the menu item Battery

  3. Select the item Battery Power Optimization in the upper right corner of the screen

  4. Select "All Apps" from the drop-down menu

  5. Now go to I LOCK IT and select "Do not optimize"
The Bluetooth connection can no longer be established

If the Bluetooth connection to I LOCK IT is no longer possible, there are several possible reasons:

 

  • The Bluetooth functionality of the smartphone is disabled. Please turn on Bluetooth and try the connection again.  

 

  • The I LOCK IT App is no longer active. Please start the I LOCK IT App. 

 

  • Another smartphone or handheld transmitter is currently connected to I LOCK IT. A simultaneous connection multiple devices is not possible. Please deactivate the Bluetooth functionality of the connected smartphone or remove the battery from the key fob.   

 

  • I LOCK IT was opened with the color code. Please close I LOCK IT with a long keypress. Then the Bluetooth function of I LOCK IT is reactivated and a new connection can be made.

 

  • Firmware Version <1.2: The connection between I LOCK IT and the smartphone is no longer available. Please follow chapter 4.4 in the instruction manual to reconnect the smartphone with I LOCK IT (www.ilockit.bike/help)
Auto reconnect does not work

In order to enable an automatic reconnection between smartphone and I LOCK IT, the I LOCK IT app must be active in the background and Bluetooth switched on.

Since the operating system terminates apps depending on usage in order to save resources, it may be necessary after some time to reopen the I LOCK IT App, even though it has not been manually closed.


Key fob usage
The key fob does not connect to I LOCK IT

If the key fob is no longer able to connect to I LOCK IT, it can have different reasons:

  • The key fob is in standby mode: after 30 minutes without connection, the key fob goes into standby mode. To re-establish a connection, the hand-held transmitter button must be pressed briefly, then the hand-held transmitter attempts to reconnect to I LOCK IT for several minutes.

 

  • I LOCK IT is currently connected to a smartphone/key fob. A simultaneous connection of several devices is not possible. To connect the key fob, the Bluetooth functionality of the already connected device must be deactivated.

 

  • The key fob battery is empty. If, after pressing the key fob button, the LED does not light up or disconnects immediately after establishing the connection, the key fob battery is empty and should be replaced.

 

  • I LOCK IT has been reset to factory settings. Please also reset the remote control to the factory settings and then pair it again. For this, follow chapter 5 of the operating instructions.

Settings
How can the locking tone be deactivated?

In the settings menu of the app, the final tone can be deactivated. The changes are saved after a change on the main screen.

Note: Deactivating the sound only has an effect on closing by pressing a button on I LOCK IT and closing via the app /key fob. Deactivation of the sound during automatic locking is not possible for legal reasons.


Battery
Notes for a defect of the battery

If your I LOCK IT does not open and close anymore and pressing the button does not cause any reaction from the LED, the battery could be completely depleted.

If you have connected I LOCK IT to your smartphone, the I LOCK IT App will show you the charge level of the battery. If the charge level drops below 20% (battery indicator is red), you should charge the battery.

Even if you do not use the I LOCK IT app, you will be informed by your castle as soon as the charge level is below 20%. Then I LOCK IT will emit audible warning signals during each opening process.

Please fully charge the battery. (During charging: button lights red and goes off when fully charged)

I LOCK IT still shows no response, although the charging process was as described in the operating instructions. Then there could be a loose connection with your I LOCK IT. > Please contact our support team.  

I LOCK IT shows no reaction even during charging In this case, it seems that there is a defect in your battery. > Please contact our support team.

General information about charging the battery

Before the first use, the battery should be fully charged. During charging, the LED of the red button lights up. When the battery is fully charged, the LED goes out.

For charging, only use voltage sources that supply the USB output with 5V DC. To charge your I LOCK IT without disassembling it, we recommend a battery pack or a power bank.

The battery lasts about a bicycle season, so the charging process must be carried out extremely rarely.


Mounting
Mounting with included screws

Please note that when fastening I LOCK IT to the specified threaded holes, the screws must not be over tightened.

Too tight threaded screws can distort the housing of the lock and affect the mechanics inside.

Tighten the screws only with a maximum of 3Nm.

Will I LOCK IT fit my bike?

Functionality
Why is the alarm not working?

Please check if the firmware from the lock is up to date? The current version is 1.5 and can be updated via the app in the Settings menu.

If a firmware update does not help put I LOCK IT in the factory condition. This deletes all settings created by the user and uses the firmware with the configurations specified by us.

Afterwards, the smartphone/key fob must be paired again. To do this, first manually delete the Bluetooth connection from the settings on the smartphone and then connect the lock with the app as you did the first time.

Does I LOCK IT have a GPS function?

With the I LOCK IT App you can always retrieve the location where you last parked your bike. This means that I LOCK IT always transmits the location information when it completes. This feature can help you find your bike in a foreign city more easily.

A GPS Live Tracking is currently not available for I LOCK IT because the existing technologies have too high battery consumption. While I LOCK IT currently has a battery life of 6-9 months, GPS trackers only reach a few hours to days.

In a Bluetooth tracking solution as offered by other products we currently see no benefit to the customer. For this, even in a small town, several thousands of users would have to be active in order, at least in theory, to have the chance to find the bike again.


Other
Which security level has I LOCK IT?

Since security levels are not standardized and do not say anything about the actual safety of a product, we do not award a security level for I LOCK IT.

The manufacturers of other bicycle locks define and assign their own security levels. Therefore, these safety classes do not give any verified statement on the safety of the product.

I LOCK IT prevents the occasional theft during short errands at the bakery or the bank or even during a leisurely stay in a café or restaurant while the bike is nearby.

Together with the alarm system and the notification on the smartphone or the keyfob (if in Bluetooth range) offers I LOCK IT very high protection against theft.

By adding the plug-in cable and plug-in chain, I LOCK IT can increase this protection for situations such as: stopping overnight at the station.

I LOCK IT doesn't react anymore

If I LOCK IT stops responding, there may be several reasons:

  • I LOCK IT is unlocked and the button has not been held down long enough to perform a locking process. Please keep the button pressed until the button lights up red.

 

  • The battery is exhausted and must be charged. Please recharge I LOCK IT via the Micro USB port.
